Registered Veterinarian Technician Application Information and Checklist

FIRST TIME APPLICANTS:
  1. Must submit a fully complete, signed, notarized, Board-approved application form with a passport type photograph attached.
  2. Must submit proof of graduation (i.e. photocopy of diploma or original official school transcript indicating degree conferred) or proof that you are a student ready to graduate from a program in veterinary technology which is accredited by the AVMA. A Certificate of Anticipated Graduation form is included in this packet for use in verifying student status.
  3. Must send all appropriate fees with the application form including a one-time application fee of $25, examination fee of $40, and the cost for the VTNE exam of $200. Make check or money order payable to the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine.

OUT OF STATE VETERINARY TECHNICIANS:

  1. Must submit a fully complete, signed, notarised, Board-approve application form with a passport type photograph attached.
  2. Must provide proof of graduation from a program in veterinary technology which is accredited by the AVMA.
  3. Must provide passing scores on the Veterinary Technician National Exam (i.e. score transferred through PES; score transfer form included in packet).
  4. Must provide proof of certification if certified in another state. A certificate of valid certification form is included in this packet for your use.
  5. Must send all appropriate fees with application form including a one-time application fee of $25, an administrative charge of $10 for processing of transferred scores, and the original certification fee of $30. Make check or money order payable to the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine.

The Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) is administered by the Board on the third Friday of January and June of each year. These dates are set by the examination provided, Professional Examination Services (PES). The Board has a deadline for application of approximately 9 weeks prior to the examination date. Please contact the Board office for these dates.

CHECKLIST FOR CERTIFICATION

TO TAKE EXAMINATION, submit the following:

  1. A fully complete, signed, notarized, Board-approve application form with a passport type photograph
  2. Proof of graduation (i.e. photocopy of diploma or original official school transcript) or proof of anticipated graduation from an accredited program in veterinary technology (form included in packet)
  3. Fees - one-time, initial application fee of $25; examination fee of $40; cost of examination of $200.

TO COMPLETE THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS, the following items must also be submitted:

  1. Two letters of personal reference
  2. Photocopy of diploma from a veterinary college or official transcript
  3. Passing score on the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE)
  4. Score transfer processing charge of $10.00 (if VTNE score is to be transferred from another state)
  5. Original certification fee of $30.
  6. Certificate of Valid Certification from Another State (for out-of-state applicants)
